Professional Hearing Aid Cleaning in McAllen

Hearing aids often stop working because of wax, sweat and dust in places a cloth cannot reach, and Valley heat and humidity make it worse. A professional cleaning usually gets them working again.

What is hearing aid cleaning?

Professional hearing aid cleaning at Mid Valley Hearing Technologies includes full debris removal, wax filter and dome replacement, microphone guard replacement, vacuuming, and a cycle in a hearing aid vacuum and dehumidifier. It takes about 20 minutes, works on any brand, and is included in both care plans at no additional charge.

A home cleaning kit gets the outside of the shell. It does not get the receiver port, the microphone ports, the vent, or the moisture that has worked its way into the electronics after a summer of 100-degree afternoons.

A professional clean pulls the wax filter, clears the ports under magnification, vacuums the debris out rather than pushing it further in, and then runs the aid through a vacuum-and-dehumidify cycle that draws trapped moisture out of the housing. People often tell us the aid sounds louder afterward.

What is included

What does this service include?

  • All major brandsStarkey, Phonak, Oticon, Widex, Signia, ReSound, Unitron, and plenty of aids bought somewhere else entirely. We do not care where you got it.
  • Wax filters and domes replacedThe filter is a consumable. A blocked one is the number one cause of a "dead" aid. Filters run $10 for a pack of eight if you are buying them outright.
  • Microphone guards replacedMic guards clog with dust and sweat and quietly strangle the high frequencies. $20 a pack outside a care plan.
  • Vacuum and dehumidify cycleThe aid goes into a hearing aid vacuum to pull out debris and trapped humidity. A home kit cannot do this step.
  • Cleaned and disinfectedFull debris removal, then disinfected before it goes back in your ear.
  • Listening check afterwardWe listen to the aid through a stethoscope before handing it back.
What happens

What happens during the visit?

  1. Bring them in

Walk in during business hours or call ahead. No appointment strictly needed for a clean.

  2. Inspection under magnification

We look at the receiver, mics, vent and shell, and check the battery contacts for corrosion.

  3. Clean, replace, vacuum, dry

Filters, domes and mic guards swapped. Debris vacuumed out. Then the drying cycle.

  4. Listening check and back to you

Verified through a stethoscope, then back in your ears. Usually about 20 minutes start to finish.

How often should this happen?

Every three to four months for most people. If you work outdoors, sweat heavily, or produce a lot of wax, make it every two. The care plans include cleaning as often as you need it, which is why most of our regulars are on one. At $40 a month it costs less than paying for cleanings and filters separately.

Common questions

Hearing Aid Cleaning: questions we get asked

No. Walk in Monday through Friday, 9 to 5. Cleaning is quick and we will work you in. Calling first at (956) 576-3593 just means we can tell you if it is a bad moment.

Yes, and we do it constantly, including aids bought online, from a big-box store, or from a clinic that has since closed. If we service the brand, we will clean it.

Cleaning is included at no extra charge on both care plans. Outside a plan, call for current pricing, because it depends on what the aid needs when it comes in. A filter and a vacuum is a quick, low-cost visit.

Usually not. A blocked wax filter or a clogged receiver accounts for the large majority of "dead" hearing aids that come through the door. Bring it in before you spend money on a replacement. A five-dollar part fixes it more often than not.

Yes, noticeably. Heat plus humidity plus sweat is hard on the electronics and encourages corrosion at the battery contacts. It is a good reason to clean and dry your hearing aids more often here.
